Hello, Acton Dental Patients, Dr. Block here. I wanted to take a moment to talk directly to you and all patients here at Acton Dental Associates. Specifically, I’d like to update you on a change we’ll be making in the upcoming year, starting January 1st, 2024.

We’ll be making a change in our status and how we handle dental insurance. We have made this decision to not renew the contract with one of the major dental insurance providers, and this was a incredibly difficult decision and not one that we took lightly.

But the primary reason for this change is that the insurance industry is negatively affecting the quality of care we can offer at our practice. Most plans require that network dentists like us, observe their restrictions to treatment.

Only your dental provider can determine what dental treatment is in your best interest based on dental examinations and conversations with you. And by not directly contracting with dental plans, we can provide personalized and high quality care to our patients.

So what will the process be like moving forward in 2024? I’d really like to stress you can still come to our office whether you have Delta Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, MetLife.

We will work to help you take advantage of your benefits. However, you will need to read your specific insurance contract to determine if your benefits are changing by going to an out-of-network provider. Nevertheless, we will still work to maximize your dental benefits, will submit your claims and all necessary documentation on your behalf.

The biggest change for you is that the insurance provider will send the reimbursement directly to you. This means that you’ll be responsible for the fee in full on the day of service.

I know this seems like a big change, but what this means for you is an absolute commitment to the highest quality of dentistry possible. Beginning in January, dental insurance will no longer dictate the limitations of your treatment and that is actually great long-term benefit for you. First, let’s ask the question, what is dental insurance? And in truth, dental insurance is not really insurance at all. Dental insurance plans do not intend to cover all expenses related to dental care.

Most benefit plans are only designed to cover a portion of the total cost. Each contract specify what types of procedures are covered, and even if a procedure is medically or dentally necessary, it may be excluded from your contract. Of course, this doesn’t mean that you don’t need the procedure.

It simply means that your plan will not consider the procedure for payment. The term insurance is very misleading and it is not true insurance.

You may want to consider eliminating the plan and purchasing our membership plan. We have a brochure and information on our website that explains how our Acton Dental membership plan works because oftentimes those private plans are not really good.

Insurance company providers typically take around two weeks and send you a reimbursement check directly to you. We’ll prepare an accurate claim that ensures you are reimbursed in a timely manner. Your insurance provider will reimburse you directly, but because we are no longer contracted with your benefit plan, the insurance company will not tell us what they’ll re reimburse you.

We will do everything in our power to help you get the benefits that you deserve. Some procedures require a two-step process. In this event, we will allow you to pay half of the fee at the first appointment and the balance at the second appointment.

We also now offer the leading treat now pay later solution through Cherry, which allows you to pay for your treatment over time interest free. One tip moving forward, dental insurance providers may send you confusing information that makes it seem like you need to find another dentist. But let me be clear, you do not need to find a new dentist.

You can still use your dental plan here and you can still come to our office and you can still remain a patient of our practice. We value you as a patient and we’re gonna work hard to get you those benefits that are within your plan.
