Do you ever wonder why celebrities and other influencers seem to have perfectly white teeth? While some may be genetically blessed with a perfect smile, many others are likely taking advantage of porcelain veneers. Veneers are a versatile cosmetic dental treatment that can quickly improve the appearance of your smile. If you have permanently stained teeth, chips, or small gaps, veneers can hide these imperfections and give you an instant boost in confidence. If you are in Acton, Massachusetts, the team at Acton Dental Associates is skilled in the placement of beautiful, natural-looking veneers.
Veneers are custom-made strips of porcelain that are permanently adhered to the front surface of your teeth. They are designed to alter the color, shape, or size of the tooth, creating a more esthetically pleasing smile.
Veneers are an excellent option for individuals with the following issues:
And while veneers are incredibly versatile, there are some situations where they might not work. Individuals with significant gaps may require orthodontic work to close the gaps before getting veneers. Similarly, those with crowded teeth or pronounced misalignment may need to work with an orthodontist before getting veneers.
The entire veneer treatment can usually be completed in two visits following a consultation. If you require any dental work such as fillings, that will need to be addressed before beginning your cosmetic dental work.
During the first visit, the dentist will remove a small layer of enamel, less than the thickness of a fingernail. This is done so that the veneers fit on the front of teeth without protruding and looking unnatural. Then, impressions are taken to create a mold that a dental laboratory will use to create your permanent veneers. Temporary veneers can be placed on the front of teeth to reduce sensitivity during the interim.
Once your permanent veneers are ready, you will return to the office, where they are bonded to the front of your teeth. Most times, both visits are done under local anesthetic.
You may notice some temperature sensitivity after removing enamel and placing your permanent veneers, but it should be mild and resolve quickly. Dental veneers do not require special care other than regular brushing and flossing and routine dental visits and cleanings.
Dental veneers can last anywhere from 10-15 years with good oral care. To prevent cracking your veneers, avoid biting down on hard objects or using your teeth to open packages.
